Situation

Chrome and Carbon, a luxury car customization garage with locations in Dubai and Los Angeles, specializes in transforming high-end sports cars into unique, personalized masterpieces. Known for their attention to detail and creative designs, Chrome and Carbon sought to elevate their offerings by integrating cutting-edge 3D printing technology into their car customization process.

During my freelance work with Proto21, a leading 3D printing company, I collaborated with Chrome and Carbon to create custom car parts such as spoilers, diffusers, and side skirts using a variety of premium materials, including carbon fiber, chrome, and matte finishes. Our collaboration eventually expanded into a passion project that involved designing a one-of-a-kind custom car for car shows and exhibitions in Dubai.

Tasks

The project focused on utilizing Proto21’s 3D printing capabilities to create a unique, futuristic car design inspired by iconic vehicles, while ensuring high-quality materials and craftsmanship.

I was tasked with collaborating closely with the owner of Chrome and Carbon to design and produce upgraded car parts. The challenge was to balance the owner’s vision for the car with the technical constraints of 3D printing and ensure that the final design met the performance and aesthetic standards of high-end automotive customization. We aimed to create something extraordinary that would make an impact at car shows and resonate with luxury car enthusiasts.

Actions

To bring this ambitious project to life, we engaged in a series of design and production actions.

Conceptual Design & Collaboration:

Working closely with the owner of Chrome and Carbon, we brainstormed ideas and drew inspiration from the Batmobile to develop a striking and futuristic car design. I created several iterations of the design, refining it based on feedback until we finalized the concept.

Material Selection & Customization:

The design included custom spoilers, diffusers, and side skirts, utilizing high-end materials such as carbon fiber and chrome to enhance both the aesthetics and performance of the car. The use of Proto21’s advanced 3D printing technology allowed us to create intricate, bespoke parts with precision.

Adapting the Design:

Although the initial design was intended for a Dodge Charger, the owner was so impressed with the final concept that he decided to apply it to his Corvette, his favorite car. The customization process was adapted to suit the Corvette’s structure, ensuring a perfect fit and flawless execution.

Showcasing the Final Product:

The completed custom Corvette was showcased at car shows in Dubai and featured prominently on Chrome and Carbon’s Instagram pages, where it received widespread attention for its bold and innovative design.
