Situation

Emarat, one of the largest petrol station chains in the UAE, aimed to enhance its customer experience by transitioning its services to a smarter, more automated platform. The goal was to modernize the customer fueling experience while providing an innovative, user-friendly interface that both individual and corporate users could easily navigate. This initiative aligned with Emarat’s broader vision of maintaining its position as a leader in the UAE’s energy sector through cutting-edge technology.

As part of this transformation, Emarat enlisted our team to design and implement a mobile application that would streamline fuel management and create a cashless, more efficient fueling experience. This app was intended to be a key touchpoint in Emarat’s larger Smart Station initiative, which utilized RFID technology and automation to upgrade over 60 stations across Dubai.

Tasks

The project required the design and development of a mobile app that would seamlessly integrate with Emarat’s newly automated fueling stations.

I led a multidisciplinary team to create an app that would simplify and enhance the fueling process for customers. This involved designing an intuitive user interface while integrating key features such as cashless transactions, station navigation, and comprehensive account management. The challenge was to ensure the app was user-friendly for both corporate and individual customers, while also aligning with Emarat’s branding and strategic objectives for its smart station rollout.

Actions

To achieve the project’s objectives, we implemented a series of focused design and development actions.

User-Centric Design:

We began by conducting user research to understand the needs of both corporate and public users. This informed our design choices, ensuring that the app provided a seamless and intuitive experience across all key functionalities.

Key Features Development:

  • Cashless Transactions: Developed the ability for users to fuel up and pay directly through the app, eliminating the need for physical cash or cards.
  • Account Management: Enabled users to register, log in, top-up their balance, and track their transaction history through a secure and streamlined interface.
  • Station Navigation: Integrated real-time location services to help users find and navigate to the nearest Emarat fueling station.
  • Personalization & Feedback: Implemented features allowing users to modify account settings and submit feedback directly through the app, ensuring continuous improvement based on user input.

Collaboration & Iteration:

Throughout the development process, we worked closely with Emarat’s technical and business teams to ensure the app was fully integrated with the RFID technology and aligned with the broader smart station initiative. Regular testing and iterations ensured a polished final product that met the high standards of both Emarat and its users.
